about graphic nothing
graphic nothing is the 'nom de plume' of english graphic designer gary clarke.
Born & raised in a 1970s Leicester (middle of England, middle of nowhere), early ambitions to become either an entomologist (insects), paleontologist (fossils), space ship model maker or astronomer utterly failed to materialise.
He moved to Manchester in 1989 to study graphic design at Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University) and subsequently never quite got around to leaving the city.
During the last 20 years, he has spent most of his time working with & for the music industry, having done design projects for many well known bands & labels (including Radiohead, Portishead, Nick Cave, Sony UK & Mute records). From 1999 to 2007 he worked at Twisted Nerve records (Badly Drawn Boy) helping put together record sleeves, websites and other musical graphic related nonsense with Manchester's infamous & slightly under-rated one man artistic genius that is Andy Votel.
His work for the Portishead website won some important BT Digital Music Award in 1998. His work for the Twisted Nerve website won some other important BT Digital Music Award in 2001.
He became bored with the music world malarky and now happily works freelance from his base in south Manchester.
